June 1, 1997, was the release date for High Plains Tradition's album "Prairie Wind." The title of the album is taken from one of the eight original songs on this collection. Another original song, "River of Sorrow," was featured on the July 15, 1997 CD "Prime Cuts of Bluegrass." According to Chuck Tinsley, High Plains Tradition's guitarist at that time, "This CD is what we've been waiting for. We worked hard on this CD to show folks what we're about - showcasing our original songs, and vocal harmonies."
"Prairie Wind" was produced by Pete Wernick, and recorded by Joe Scott (Wind Machine), at Absolute Sound Recording in Berthoud, CO. Mastering was done at Colorado Sound by Tom Capek, and the liner notes were written by Bob Amos of Front Range. The album contains twelve cuts; eight original songs, with a decidedly "traditional" sound using three and four part harmonies, guitar, mandolin, bass, and banjo accompaniment.
The album is available at all of the band's live appearances, directly from the band at the address shown below, through Mid-Continent Music , through outlets served by Record Depot as well as at www.themusicmotel.com.
The third release from High Plains Tradition, is "Where the Woods are Cool and Still". This CD consists of 14 songs of which 11 were penned by Lead Singer, Songwriter, and Mandolinist, Doug Elrick. As quoted from our first revue by Dave Higgs, DJ for Bluegrass Breakdown, WPLN 90.3 FM, Nashville Public Radio, "Because of You" rocks; "I Knew" reaffirms the power of good love; "Show Me the Way" could get an atheist saved; "Sommerville Mine" tells a terrific story and "Flowers From Emily" tugs at the heart. The band's covers of "Blue Moon of Kentucky" and "Soldier's Joy" rekindle the excitement of hearing the original versions for the first time. Every finely crafted and meticulously performed tune is guaranteed to put a smile on the face of the ardent traditionalist and rabid contemporary bluegrass aficionado alike."
"Where the Woods are Cool and Still" was recorded, mixed and mastered at NFA Studios (Noteably Fine Audio) in Denver, Colorado. It was produced by High Plains Music Productions and engineered by Colin Bricker. Liner notes were written by Dave Higgs of Nashville Public Radio's Bluegrass Breakdown. Art work was done by Mona Simon at E.Magine and Associates of Arvada, Colorado.
The album is available at all of the band's live appearances, and also may be ordered at the address listed in the News section of this web. Look for it also at www.themusicmotel.com and also on www.Amazon.com and at www.CountySales.com
